Il ruolo che l'area metropolitana di Montréal ha assunto nel settore dell'Intelligenza Artificiale deriva anche dall'attività di importanti centri di ricerca. La città ospita istituzioni di riconosciuta rilevanza internazionale, quali il Montréal Institute for Learning Algorithms (MILA) e IVADO, che hanno svolto un ruolo determinante nello sviluppo della ricerca moderna nell'ambito del machine learning e del deep learning. MILA, fondato da Yoshua Bengio, vincitore del Premio Turing, è diventato uno dei più grandi centri accademici di ricerca sull'IA a livello globale. La sua produzione scientifica, la concentrazione di talenti e l'apertura alla collaborazione hanno collocato Montréal all'avanguardia della ricerca fondamentale sull'IA. In questo contesto, il Canada-Italy AI Forum è la piattaforma bilaterale di riferimento per la cooperazione tra i due Paesi nel campo dell'intelligenza artificiale e del trasferimento tecnologico. Organizzato dalla Camera di Commercio Italiana in Canada (CCIC), giunge nel 2026 alla sua ottava edizione. Il format è a partecipazione selezionata, con 150–250 partecipanti, e si articola in sessioni plenarie, tavole rotonde tematiche, incontri B2B e R2B preorganizzati, gruppi di lavoro bilaterali e visite di studio all'ecosistema locale. The leading role that the Greater Montréal area has assumed in the field of Artificial Intelligence also stems from the activity of major research centres. The city is home to internationally recognised institutions such as the Montréal Institute for Learning Algorithms (MILA) and IVADO, which have played a decisive role in the development of modern research in machine learning and deep learning. MILA, founded by Yoshua Bengio, winner of the Turing Award, has become one of the world's largest academic AI research centres. Its scientific output, concentration of talent and openness to collaboration have positioned Montréal at the forefront of fundamental AI research. In this context, the Canada-Italy AI Forum is the bilateral reference platform for cooperation between the two countries in artificial intelligence and technology transfer. Organised by the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Canada (ICCC), it reaches its eighth edition in 2026. The format is selective, with 150–250 participants, and combines plenary sessions, thematic round tables, pre-arranged B2B and R2B meetings, bilateral working groups and study visits to the local ecosystem.
